CASH IS KING

Our commitment

At Otto’s, we no longer add a surcharge for the convenience of using your card. However, we do ask that you bring cash or pay with your debit card when visiting our establishment. Restaurant margins are very slim, and as a small business we feel we cannot continue to accept credit cards and the fees they impose on our bottom line.

Credit Card Fees Hurt Small Businesses

When you purchase something with cash (the legal tender of the United States), you are paying the business for the cost of their goods and services, along with taxes. There is no middle man taking a cut. However, when you pay with a credit card, the fee taken by the credit card companies and their merchant servicers can add up to 4 or 5%! Taking credit card payments also means a business must have the equipment to do so and a solid internect connection. Instead of being able to pass this extra cost for the convenience of using your credit card along to the customer, laws and regulations of the credit card companies have been passed to make it very difficult to do so. They require that you give a “cash discount” when differentiating between the cost of paying by cash or with your card. However, this is not the case! The cost of goods and services goes UP when you use your credit card, and we believe that baseline prices should reflect the actual cost of the goods and services provided WITHOUT the fees and expenses inquired by a business accepting credit cards.

The convenience of using your credit card…

Otto’s is a small business providing a delicious and needed great food option for the mountain community in Park County. As a small business, we face a number of challenges to provide a quality product and great service at an affordable price. Credit Card companies have made it almost impossible to add a fee for using their product, and want customers to think that the price of goods and services should include their percentage. However, we at Otto’s want to be clear that as a small business, the percentage credit card companies take from each transaction adds up. Instead of raising our prices, making everyone contribute to covering the fee’s of the credit card compaines, we are keeping our prices as low as possible and asking people to just use their debit cards, and we will ALWAYS accept cash.

Debit Cards are OK!

Debit Cards incur a very small transactional fee to use, and for the convenience of being able to pay with a debit or prepaid card, Otto’s will continue to take electronic payments in these forms.
